HUNDREDS of fundraisers pulled on their Santa suits but ditched the reindeer as they took to the streets for this year's Bicester Santa Fun Run.

The sea of runners dressed in red and white costumes flooded Pingle Field in the town on Sunday for the annual event, which is organised by Bicester Town Council.

Families and fundraisers of all ages took part in not only raising funds for charity but but also helping to drum up a bit of festive cheer.

Bicester town mayor, Les Sibley, who was on hand to congratulate the winners, said: "It was a great turnout despite the bad weather that had been forecast.

"It was just so great to see so many Santas all in one place and all sorts of people, from youngsters in prams to older people.

"It's great to bring the community together like that and everyone seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves.

"Plus everyone who completed the course was happy to get a free bacon butty at the end."

The Santas lined up for the start at 11am on Sunday before racing their way round Pingle Field.

Richard Gould took first place, while Samuel Worfolk was runner-up and Edwrd Jolliffe took third place.

All money raised will go to the mayor’s chosen charities, which this year are The Hummingbird Cancer Support and Therapy Centre, Auditory Verbal, Bicester Foodbank and Victim Support.

Mr Sibley added: "There is a really good atmosphere.

"We did have a little rain, most the first runners got over the finish line dry but then we had a little drizzle.

"But the event continues to grow every year and I would guess there more than 400 people took part this year.

"A special thanks goes to Evolve Health and Fitness for sponsoring the event for the fourth year running, Warburtons for the bread rolls, Peter Goss local butchers for the bacon and Sainsbury's for further refreshments."

Bicester Town Council has not yet revealed how much was raised by the event.
