A FAMILY had a 'lucky escape' when a toy helicopter set alight whilst left charging in a bedroom.
Firefighters in Bicester were called to a home in Kings End when the remote control helicopter caught fire yesterday about 8pm.
The fire completely engulfed the toy leaving it completely charred and a pile of ashes in its place int he bedroom.
A post from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service online said: "Fortunately the noise and sudden smell alerted their young son, who raised the alarm before the fire had a chance to take hold and just before the smoke alarm was triggered.
"This allowed the power to be turned off and the toy removed to outside.
"The damage was limited but if this had been in the night, the consequences could have been far worse."
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service put out a warning about leaving items on charge when not in a property.
