RETAIL park plans have been dubbed ‘Bicester’s Marmite’ as councillors welcome revised proposals that have split opinions.
Plans promise Marks and Spencer and Next will be built on the edge of town plus more shops, a restaurant and a gym.
Despite backing from many residents, townspeople still remain concerned over the impact on traffic - a concern upheld the first time it was submitted and rejected in October 2015. These concerns were echoed by Bicester Town Councillors who agreed this week a response which welcomes the plans but highlighted worries over traffic and the impact on town centre trade.
During discussions councillor Richard Mould said: “The plan that has come back to us appears on the surface to have addressed these issues but there are still some traffic issues.”
He added: “This one will divide opinion in the town, im now describe it as Bicester’s Marmite as many people love while others hate it.”
The response will be put to Cherwell District Council for a decision before April 10. A further amendment has been submitted by applicants Consolidated Property Group but the details are not yet known.
