HUNDREDS of wrestling fans got a grip on themselves and descended on Bicester to see their heroes in action.

The town’s leisure centre was transformed into a live arena to host a series of bouts where top fighters showed off their moves for charity.

Among the stars was Bicester-born ‘Filthy’ Chris Walker, so-called Italian ladies' man Antonio Del Luca and main attraction, former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar Oliver Grey.

Organisers say the fights had families on the edge of their seats, especially during the Royal Rumble finale.

Bicester Leisure Centre duty manager Peter Rann, who helped organise the event, said: "It went very well. We had around 200 people and a lot came to see the former WWE star Oliver Grey.

"There were three single fights, one tag team clash, which the former WWE star was in, and then the rumble where it was every man for themselves.

"It was great. All the wrestlers got the kids cheering and up on their seats clapping, getting involved."

Mr Grey, who left WWE last year to concentrate on his career in this country, led the way in a bout with 6ft 7ins Big Grizzly Jones who weighed in at 26st.

Local wrestlers taking part including the masked Mystery Man Tagori and Chris Walker, in his signature Hawaiian shirt, who was also celebrating his tenth year of wrestling.

Crowds surrounded the ring to watch the lycra-clad masters at work from 7.30pm on Saturday.

Mr Rann said: "We had a fair few people this year who also came last year. With the development of Bicester, hopefully it will be back next year and become an annual event for the town."

It is the second time the Bicester Leisure Centre in Queens Avenue has hosted the wrestling event.

The night was in aid of UK charity Kidscape and all money raised through raffles and competitions will go towards supporting the charity and its work with young people, families and professionals to safeguard children and tackle bullying.
