ALONG with The Oxford Academy, results at The Bicester School were the most improved in the county, jumping from 40 per cent with five good GCSEs last year to 63 per cent this year.
The school, known as Bicester Community College before it became an academy in September, was put into special measures in February 2013.
But current headteacher Tony Rushworth took over in May 2014 and the next month it left special measures.
This year’s results mark a return to 2012’s performance.
Mr Rushworth said: “We are extremely delighted.
“It was a massive improvement and a fantastic effort by staff and students.
“I think it’s because we’ve always tried to instil an extra-mile attitude.
“We have brought in additional support that other schools don’t have.
“For example, two years ago we introduced a Saturday school every week and invite year seven. At break times we were having more than two thirds of the year group showing up.”
Since it became an academy the school has been run by education provider Activate Learning, which Mr Rushworth said has contributed towards the excellent exam results this year.
He added that the new system was “at an early stage” but said: “We are keeping up the momentum and working hard, and we expect really good results again next year.”
