THE FATHER of a boy killed when a mirror fell on him in a fashion store has today spoken at the inquest into his son's death.

Simon Harrison told how his four-year-old son Austen had been playing with a three-way mirror in Hugo Boss store, in Bicester Village, when it collapsed on him.

A jury at the Oxford Coroner's Court in Oxford this morning heard how the two-metre tall mirror, with a central section and two folding wings, was freestanding when it was designed to be fixed to the wall.

Mr Harrison had met his wife, Irina Harrison, and his son at the shopping centre to buy a suit on the evening of June 8, 2013.

The court heard how Austen had been dancing in front of the 118-kg mirror and playing with the hinged side sections when it fell on him, causing severe head injuries.

He received emergency surgery at the John Radcliffe hospital in Oxford but died on June 8.

The inquest, which began this morning, is expected to last three days.
