A CARE home in Merton near Bicester was rated inadequate by healthcare watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Manor House Nursing Home in Merton provides care for up to 102 elderly people living with dementia or mental health issues.

During an unannounced inspection in October 2014 the watchdog found the care home was “frequently short of staff” and there were cases where residents “received an excessive dose of medicine”.

Inspectors found that “people were at risk of their wellbeing and health needs not being met due to inadequate planning and delivery of their care.”

The report said that there were issues with filing and recording patient wishes, such as on Do Not Attempt Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation forms.

Inspectors also found that two residents in the care home were not protected from “malnutrition” after significant weight loss over the previous six months.

The report also said that “people were not always treated with kindness, compassion or with respect”.

The care home provider Embrace was issued with a warning by the CQC to improve staffing levels and improve the planning and delivery of care.

A spokeswoman from Embrace - the provider that operates the nursing home - said: “We take all feedback from the CQC extremely seriously. We will continue to work with them to address the points raised and ensure that all residents receive the high quality care and support they expect and deserve.

“The health and wellbeing of the people we support is our number one priority and we will continue to strive to provide the best care and support for all residents.”
