BICESTER Village staff have said they’ll take more precautions against traffic chaos caused by frenzied festive shopping next Black Friday.

Police were again called to help manage traffic at the shopping centre on Saturday and yesterday and cars queued on the A41 to get in on both days.

It came after record numbers of shoppers poured into Bicester and other shops across the county on Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year.

Thames Valley Police announced on Twitter that it had issued tickets to cars trying to park on nearby residential streets.

But users hit back, saying the retail park should have been more prepared.

Julian Kemp tweeted: “What a waste of police resources .. Bicester Village should get a fine for the chaos and wasting police time.”

Gary Warland posted: “Trust you & Bicester Village will take learnings from today & ensure a proper plan for next 4 wks & Boxing Day & beyond.”

Terri Wenger wrote: “Fantastic news!....i live here and hate the burden bicester village puts on the roads for us locals.”

Spokeswoman Miranda Markham promised that if Black Friday loomed next year, Bicester Village would take more action.

She said: “We were not expecting it to be as popular as it was, it was phenomenal.

“Had we known, of course we would have taken the same precautions we take on Boxing Day, using cones to block off residential streets.”
