STAFF at a care home near Bicester received a visit from their MP after being rewarded for long service.

Eighteen workers at Manor House, in Main Street, Merton, were given awards by the Embrace group, which runs the home, for serving there for at least 10, 15 and 20 years.

They also met Henley MP John Howell, whose constituency covers the village.

Among those who won awards were Dawn Collins, who has worked at the care home for 22 years, and Ellen Bond, who has been there for 20 years.

Ms Bond said: “I love working for the residents. It’s nice to be there for them and talk to them.

“It’s not just a job.”

There are about 80 staff at the care home.

Deputy manager Larilyn Macavinta, who was recognised for more than 15 years’ service, said: “It’s very seldom so many people nowadays spend large periods working for one particular home.

“It was nice they were appreciated for their long service and it lifts morale as it makes the staff feel valued.

“If you have been with the residents for a long time it means that they’ve got to know them, which makes it easier to know their likes, dislikes, wishes and preferences.”
