THE sister of a 23-year-old man who was diagnosed with testicular cancer will tonight hold a fundraising concert in his honour.

Laura Williams, 26, said she wanted to help the Teenage Cancer Trust after seeing brother Dan Williams battle the disease since November.

“Dedication” will be held at Cowley Road’s The Art Bar from 6.30pm and feature Acts Godsbane, Crows Reign, Jabroni Sandwich, Dead Mesa and Ex Aethara.

Miss Williams, of Bicester, said: “It’s to raise awareness because cancer is one of those horrible things, it’s a horrible word.”

The assistant lettings manager at a Headington estate agents said: “It was so hard watching him go through it, especially things like him losing his hair.

“We were quite lucky because as a family we had never really had to deal with anything like this at all and then to have it happen to the youngest member of our family was just unbelievable.”

Mr Williams, who lives in Leamington Spa, discovered he had testicular cancer after feeling unwell for a couple of months.

While at a Coventry hospital he was told there was a problem with his kidneys and was taken immediately to Nottingham City Hospital’s Teenage Cancer Trust unit.

He then started chemotherapy after medics found the cancer, which had spread to his lymph nodes, neck and stomach.

Between November and May, Mr Williams underwent four intensive chemotherapy sessions, staying in hospital for about a week at a time. He then had surgery to remove the growth in his stomach and neck as well as a kidney and testicle. About 150 people are expected to attend the event between 6.30pm and 10.30pm.

Visitors will also have the chance to take part in a raffle with prizes including merchandise donated by the evening’s performers.

Tickets will be £9 on the door.
