A MAN hit in the face with a golf club has spoken about the moment a group of thugs attacked him, leaving him with horrific injuries.

Maciej Ogrodnik was attacked in the early hours on Saturday, leaving him with a fractured eye socket and broken jaw.

The 28-year-old said: “I was with my wife Kasia because we were going to the airport. I was going to Poland for some business.

“There were a group of guys who were drunk and they were just outside causing trouble.

“They were swearing and my wife was across the street so I asked them not to.

“There was no argument or shouting, they apologised and said sorry. Then when I was about to go, one of them just hit me.”

He was attacked at about 3.20am on Saturday morning on the forecourt of the Gulf petrol station in Buckingham Road, Bicester, but police only released details yesterday.

Mr Ogrodnik, who owns the Quality Furniture Outlet and Cash 4 Clothes shop behind the petrol station and lives nearby, said: “After I was hit with the golf club I went on the floor then the other guys tried to kick me and they all ran away.

“It was for no reason, really.

“There was no argument or swearing or raised voices.

“It was not really terrifying, more surprising.”

Thames Valley Police said there is no CCTV footage of the attack and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Mr Ogrodnik, who is originally from Poland and moved to Oxfordshire in 2012, was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

He has already had one operation and is due to have a metal plate inserted into his jaw later this week.

He said: “I had an operation because I had a big open cut on my face on my eye level.

“They stitched my nerves together because it’s a really important part of the face responsible for smiling and winking and things.

“My top jaw is broken and I can’t move it properly. I still have to go back for more surgery. You can’t tell with these things if my nerves will be ok and if my face will go back to normal. I don’t know.

“It’s going to take months to recover and could be a life-long thing.”

He was hit by one of a group of four or five men.

The man who is said to have hit him has been described by police as white, in his mid to late twenties and about 5ft 10in tall. He is of medium to stocky build, with short dark hair and was wearing a dark-coloured jumper.

A second man was white, in his mid to late twenties and slim, with short blond hair. He was wearing a short sleeved T-shirt.

Call police on 101.
