Help recycle materials to create Christmas decorations for Bicester

PEOPLE are being invited to workshops to help make Christmas decorations for Bicester town centre.

Recycled materials will be used to create around 100 small globes which will be modelled around different sized balloons and one giant one about the size of an exercise ball.

They will be strung up around the town and illuminated as part of the Christmas lights switch-on on Thursday, November 29.

Free drop-in workshops, organised by Cherwell District Council, take place on Tuesday, from noon to 3.30pm, at the Eco House, in Garth Park, off Launton Road, and on Saturday, November 17, at the recycling trailer, in Sheep Street, between 10am and 3pm.

Anyone planning to go along is urged to take items including clear, sturdy plastic shopping bags, sweet wrappers, newspapers, magazines, cereal boxes and used envelopes with cellophane windows.

Cherwell’s lead member for clean and green Nigel Morris said: “This is a fantastic way to use items which might otherwise have ended up being thrown away.

“The globes should look wonderful as part of this year’s Christmas lights display and will act as a symbol of efforts in the town to protect the environment.”
