Canal Day promises to pack a real Punch!
7:00am Monday 24th September 2012 in Banbury
LIVE music, stories, theatre and even Punch and Judy will take centre stage for Banbury’s Canal Day on Sunday, October 7.
Organisers Banbury Town Council say it could be the busiest Canal Day since the event started in 2003 as every boat mooring had been booked.
The day itself will see both sides of the towpath, from Sovereign Wharf to The Mill Lock, packed with canal-themed attractions.
Compton Road will host a 50-stall European Market and a Hook Norton Brewery beer tent, and a five-hour folk concert will take place in the garden of General Foods Social Club.
Tooley’s Boatyard will return to work mode to showcase blacksmith demonstrations, engine displays, boat chandlery, and its dry dock. And historic walks led by Brian Little will start from the boatyard.
There will also be entertainment on Friday and Saturday, October 5 and 6, when Tooley’s will be transformed into a theatre hosting plays, storytelling music and movies.
