A MAN walked into a building society yesterday with a replica gun, sparking a police alert.

He walked into the Nationwide in Market Place, Banbury at 11.15am yesterday with what police believe was a replica plastic firing pistol.

Thames Valley Police spokesman Adam Fisher said: “Police were called at around 11.15am following reports that a customer in the bank had a gun.

“No attempt was made to steal anything in the incident and no one was injured.”

He said: “The weapon is believed to be a replica plastic firing pistol.”

Nationwide spokesman Katie Moore said: “We are aware that an incident took place at our Banbury branch.

“We cannot give any further comment as this is subject to a police investigation.”

A 63-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and was last night in police custody.

He's 63 so unless he's been surgically mutilated and persuaded DWP to give him an old age pension he's not a "pensioner". Anyone can draw a pension from 50 but "pensioner" wouldn't be their primary description. "Old daftie"?

its so shocking. I was sat in the chair in the small waiting area, as my boyfriend was upstairs with the bank man getting his mortgage changed. I was sat next to this man who got arrested, he was dressed like a shephard, i was shocked to hear it was him. I`m glad no one was hurt.

It makes a change from a pensioner holding up 2 miles of traffic in their Rover 45.
