CLASSIC racing cars dashed through Oxfordshire yesterday as a famous rally returned to a town for the first time in more than 50 years.
Drivers in The Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique stopped to chat with the crowds in Banbury on their way from Paisley, near Glasgow to Monaco.
The town’s Market Place was an ‘official passage control point’ for the 1,500 mile race.
Race participants were also joined by 60 classic and vintage cars in a static display and local museums held information stalls.
It marked the first time the race has stopped in Banbury since 1962 when crowds lined the streets to get a glimpse of the cars.
The 'historique' rally features cars that have run in the original Monte Carlo Rally before 1981.
Leader of Banbury Town Council Kieron Mallon said: "It’s fantastic to see it back again."
