FIRE crews tackled a ‘significant’ blaze at a flat in Banbury.

They were called to the apartment on Old Parr Road, at 9.07pm on Saturday.

Firefighters immediately began searching the flat for anyone inside, but found it to be empty.

Two fire engines from Banbury and one from Chipping Norton attended, using high pressure hose reels on the flames.

Station Manager Chris Barber said: “The first crews on scene were faced with a first floor filled with smoke coming from a significant fire in the hallway of the flat.

“Thankfully, the smoke alarms had alerted neighbours.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
