BANBURY town mayor Tony Mepham has led calls for dog owners around the town to celebrate their four-legged friends at this month’s Bark in the Park.

Mr Mepham was with his two dogs, golden retriever Buster and chocolate Labrador Yogi, at the show’s location, People’s Park to urge people to get involved with the celebration of man’s best friend on Sunday, September 27.

The day, which will run from 1.30pm to 4pm, will give dog owners a chance to test their dogs’ agility and obedience, and enter them into a fun dog show.

Mr Mepham said: “It is a celebration of dogs because a lot of people in Banbury have dogs so we have decided to organise an event where people can come along and bring their pets.

“Owners of other four-legged pets are also welcome to attend. It will be a wonderful day for people of all ages who love animals.”

During their afternoon there will also be an assistance dog demonstration by the charities Guide Dogs for the Blind and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Visitors will also have a chance to talk to staff from Hearing Dogs and the charity Medical Detection Dogs.

The event, which also includes a funfair, fundraising and food stalls, starts at 1.30pm with a parade of pets at 4pm.
