A 23-year-old man was hit by a car in Banbury before being chased by the driver, police have said.

Thames Valley Police said the man was walking along the path outside St Francis Church, in Highlands, between about 4.15pm and 4.30pm yesterday.

The force said he heard a car travelling at speed and turned around to see a green turquoise coloured car coming towards him.

Officers said the car mounted the pavement, hitting the victim’s legs and throwing the pedestrian into the road.

They said the driver, described as a white man in his early twenties wearing a grey hooded top, got out of his vehicle and started shouting at the victim.

Police said he then chased the victim on foot, who managed to escape.

Officers added the driver was about 5ft 10ins, of slim build, with short brown hair and stubble.

Investigating officer, PC Dominic Watson from Response team, based at Banbury police station, said “I would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident or may have seen a car being driven erratically in the area.

“This was an extremely dangerous act that could have ended in a fatality. It is important that anyone who witnessed this incident comes forward so that we can hold the individual responsible accountable.
