STABILISATION at the site of a huge landslip that blocked the railway between Banbury and Leamington Spa has yet to begin, according to Network Rail.

The company is currently using remote sensing techniques to monitor the landslide, where earth is still slowly moving.

Banbury Town councillor Colin Clarke said: “From my understanding the land is actually moving anything up to an inch a day.

“They have to feel out the ground before they can remove it - it’s a challenge.”

Network Rail chief executive Mark Carney said: “Our focus is on making sure the site is safe before our engineers move any of the affected earthworks.”
