THE landslide that closed the railway line between Banbury and Leamington Spa has not dented Oxford’s busy tourist trade, according to the county’s tourism body.

The line between Banbury and Leamington spa is still blocked owing to Saturday’s 350,000 tonne landslide and will remain closed for several weeks.

Experience Oxfordshire’s Ulrike Werner aid she had not noticed the number of overnight visitors to Oxford declining as a result of the disruption, but said day visitors were likely to be put off visiting the city.

She said: “It will cause an impact on a few people but if they are coming from far away they will have booked the trip in advance so will have checked out the travel arrangements.

“But it might have more of an impact on day visitors, especially those coming from that area. However the majority of our visitors come from London.”
