A FATHER has hit out after 230 employees of West Oxfordshire’s Caterham Formula 1 Team were made redundant.

Jim McManus, from Drayton near Banbury, was made redundant on Friday after more than a year working for the Leafield-based team.

Employees were told of the job losses the same day administrators announced they had secured enough cash to race in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday, November 23.

Former senior aerodynamist Mr McManus, 41, said: “It’s sort of mixed emotions. Even though we knew it was coming, actually getting the letter was quite upsetting. I was angry because I was of the group of employees who had asked not to be made redundant.

“There seems to be no discussion about it. It seems we have been really rail-roaded through. I don’t think the employees are being consulted at all.”

A statement from the administrators said: “It should be stressed that this is a necessary step in the overall restructuring process which has the ultimate aim of getting a new sound financial owner to take over.”
