A DECISION on who should replace veteran MP Sir Tony Baldry as Conservative candidate for Banbury will be taken next month.

Following a meeting of the North Oxfordshire Conservative Association’s executive committee on Wednesday evening, the position of prospective parliamentary candidate for Banbury has now been formally advertised.

Senior members of the association will be tasked with compiling a longlist of candidates who will be interviewed.

All candidates on the list will be quizzed by the executive committee and three or four candidates will go through to the final selection.

This will be conducted by all members of the association and will take place on Saturday, November 8. An announcement will be made after that.

In a statement the associaton said: “The decision on which candidates to interview and shortlist rests entirely with North Oxfordshire Conservative Association.”

Last month Sir Tony announced he would stand down from Parliament at the next General Election after 30 years in the House of Commons.

With a majority of more than 18,000, his seat is considered to be very safe and unlikely to change hands.
