Former British rowing champion and Olympic gold medalist James Cracknell may stand for election as an MP in Banbury, it has been claimed.

It follows the surprise announcement by Conservative Party veteran Sir Tony Baldry that he will not run next May, having held the seat for the last 32 years.

The Daily Telegraph named Mr Cracknell candidate for the “safe seat”. Mr Cracknell’s agent has not commented.
