TWO men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 43-year-old man died nearly a month after being assaulted.

Police yesterday released CCTV images of potential witnesses who may have seen Martin Rudzitis being assaulted and robbed in People’s Park in Banbury, on Friday, July 11, at about 9.30pm.

He died on Wednesday, August 3, and a post-mortem examination five days later found it was the result of head injuries.

Two Banbury men, aged 19 and 20, were arrested on suspicion of murder and released on bail until Thursday, September 25.

Thames Valley Police, who released the information yesterday, are now appealing for witnesses.

Det Sgt Ali Driver said: “This is quite a complex investigation and it has taken some time for officers to piece together the movements of Mr Rudzitis in the days prior to his death. What we have recently established is that, at about 9.30pm on July 11 in People’s Park, Banbury, Mr Rudzitis was the victim of a serious assault and robbery at the main entrance to People’s Park near Horsefair/ North Bar.

“He managed to walk away from the assault but died on August 3. It was still light at the time and we are aware that other members of the public may have seen what happened or have been pestered by the offenders as they entered or exited the park. We would urge anyone with information about this to contact police.”
