A TEENAGER has urged cyclists to take greater care on the roads after being knocked over in Abingdon.

Emily Andrews was getting off her bus home from Oxford last Friday with a friend when she was knocked over by a cyclist who she said was speeding on the pavement on the Vineyards.

The Larkmead School pupil suffered a fractured wrist, bleeding from her right hip, and grazes and bruises to her knees and shoulders.

The cyclist, who was with another rider, was thrown off his bike but despite Emily's injuries carried on cycling towards the town centre.

She said: "They should not be going up on pavements so fast without slowing down first.

"They didn't even help me even though I had just been thrown to the ground bleeding. There was no effort to look back.

"Usually they would stop and help.

"I've now got a cast on for four weeks, and if they were going slower it would not be as bad.

"I saw the cyclists a couple of stops back when they were on the road, so they must have gone onto the pavement when the bus stopped.

"When they see a bus pulling up they should realise people might be coming out onto the pavement."

After dusting herself off she hobbled back to her friend's house nearby who called an ambulance to take her to the John Radcliffe Hospital.

The Fitzharry's Road resident, who is awaiting her GCSE results, said: "I want these people to know that they can't go so fast and not expect this to happen.

"It's not the fault of those coming off the bus, it's cyclists who are speeding by."

Police have described the cyclist as white, about 15 years old, 5ft 8ins with light brown hair which is long on top and shaved at the sides.

He was wearing shorts and riding a mountain bike.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact police on 101 quoting URN 749 5/8.
