AN INQUEST into the death of a 36-year-old man found hanged in Sutton Courtenay last June has concluded he took his own life.

The body of Vincent Collier, known to family and friends as Vince, was discovered in woods near Church Street and Appleford Road on Thursday, June 4.

He was found by a passerby who called Thames Valley Police.

Mr Collier, who was born in Oxford before moving to Sutton Courtenay, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 8.30pm.

At the inquest at Oxford Coroner’s Court on Thursday assistant coroner Jeremy Chipperfield recorded a conclusion of hanging.

He spoke of Mr Collier’s history of anxiety and depression.

He said: “For some time he had been in low mood and clearly struggled for a long time with dependence on alcohol.

“In particular I note he very recently had the end of a relationship which caused him to be depressed.

“Despite considerable support and love from his family at the time his low mood and depression won the battle and caused him to take his life.”

The court heard a toxicology report showed high levels of alcohol in Mr Collier’s blood.

The coroner said Mr Collier, who worked in construction, had left no note.
