CARE home assistant Amelia Guard was given a Heart of Gold award after being nominated by residents and families.

Ms Guard was one of many staff at Bridge House in Abingdon presented with the awards.

Home manager June Maharaj said everyone who won an award consistently demonstrated compassion and dedication to make residents’ lives better every day.

She added: “Amelia fully deserves this very special recognition. We receive so many compliments about her from residents and their families.

“She is sensitive and caring and committed to every single individual need of the residents - she is a real asset to the home.

“As an illustration of how she goes above and beyond, she organised, virtually single-handed, a fundraising dinner with dancing and entertainment for typhoon victims. More than 180 people, including Bridge House staff, residents and their families attended, and she raised more than £1,500 – an extraordinary achievement.”

On Tuesday Ms Guard was presented with an etched glass plaque to commemorate her success and a necklace. A total of 41 staff were presented with Heart of Gold awards.
