A WOMAN accused of stabbing her boyfriend to death phoned police minutes before the alleged attack saying she was not putting up with him any more, a court heard.

A jury at Oxford Crown Court was played a recording of the 999 call Natasha Elderfield made on the evening of Sunday, October 19 as Robert Dobinson was walking towards the boat where she lived.

The court had previously heard how Mr Dobinson had repeatedly phoned Elderfield during the afternoon while she was on her boat, moored in Abingdon, entertaining her lover Tony Steggles.

Charles Ward-Jackson, prosecuting, said Elderfield, who had drunk more than a bottle of wine, called the police at 7.18pm after Mr Dobinson phoned her to say he was on his way to the boat.

She told the operator: “He’s now coming down the road. I don’t know what he’s doing but he’s not going to keep dictating to me.”

She continued: “He’s had his ****ing due and he’s not having nothing else.

“He’s not coming on my boat alright. I’m not having this any more.”

Police received reports of a man having been stabbed on the towpath near Bridge Street at 7.36pm.

The jury also heard from retired John and Valerie Barlow who were suddenly disturbed by a man banging on the roof of their boat crying for help minutes later.

In a written statement, Mrs Barlow said: “I heard a very loud bang coming from the roof of the boat. I heard a man’s voice saying he had been stabbed.

“My husband also heard this and came to the front of the boat. He said he was going to take a look outside but I begged him not to go. I was terrified.”

The couple later saw Mr Dobinson lying motionless on the ground and dialled 999.

Sebastiane Alexandra, who lives in a riverside house opposite the scene, told how she had heard people arguing and shouting on the boat at about 7pm and saw the outline of a man walking away.

Elderfield denies murder.

The trial continues.
