AN “ACOUSTIC” fence should be built around a new housing estate at Kingston Bagpuize to keep out the noise of a nearby road, council officers have said.

Vale of White Horse District Council’s environmental protection team has urged the condition be placed on the David Wilson Homes plan.

The developer has applied for planning permission to build 73 homes off Field Close in the village near Abingdon.

The council has said it will have to use extra-thick window glazing and an extra-thick “acoustic” fence to keep out the noise of the neighbouring A420.

Environmental health officer Alick Natton told David Wilson Homes: “The site is adversely affected by road noise from the A420.

“The glazing specifications and other mitigation methods (acoustic fence) identified in the accompanying acoustic report will need to be incorporated.”

The new estate would have seven two-bedroom homes, nine three-bedroom and 28 or more four-bedroom for the open market.

It would also have eight one- and 13 two-bedroom affordable homes to be run by a housing association. There would be 216 car parking spaces.

The site is occupied by a horse riding centre including paddocks, a barn and stables.

Residents can comment on the application at whitehorsedc.gov.uk using reference number P14/V2820/FUL until February 4.

The council has said it will make a final decision by Tuesday, March 17.
