A judge has begun summing up in the trial of a pensioner accused of historic rape charges.

Yesterday, Judge Patrick Eccles began summing up the case against Terry Haynes to the jury at Oxford Crown Court.

The 69-year-old of Mathews Way, Abingdon, denies 16 rape charges, 11 counts of indecent assault and two attempted rapes, alleged to have taken place over ten years starting in the 1980s.

Judge Eccles said he expected the jury to retire on Monday to consider their verdict.

On Thursday, he directed the jury to find him not guilty of a 17th rape charge.
