A woman stamped a neighbour’s pet duck to death because she was fed up with the noise it was making.

The call duck suffered “intensely” following the attack, a vet told the RSPCA.

Charlene Winter fatally injured the duck in her neighbour’s garden in Wick Parade, Wick, near Littlehampton.

Chichester Magistrates’ Court was told that Winter visited her neighbour’s garden to complain about noise on September 3 last year Initially she let her dog chase the ducks.

But she went on to stamp on one of the birds before holding it down so her dog could bite it.

The duck’s injuries were so bad it died.

Speaking after the case, an RSPCA spokeswoman said: “Winter went to her neighbour’s garden to complain about noise.

“Her dog was off the lead and the ducks were roaming free in the garden.

“The dog chased some of the ducks then, as Winter walked away, the neighbour told the court that she stamped on a call duck, holding it down and allowing her dog to bite it.”

Convicted

Winter – who did not turn up to court for the hearing – was convicted of two counts of causing unnecessary cruelty to an animal in her absence.

Winter, who was convicted under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, faces a maximum charge of 51 weeks in prison and a fine of up to £20,000.

A warrant has been issued for her arrest and she is due to be sentenced at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, May 23.

She has been banned from keeping animals in the interim.
