VOLUNTEER Jane Robinson has dedicated more than 18 years to her community.

The Abingdon mum-of-one has set up groups in the Long Furlong estate, including a singing circle for pre-school children and their carers and the 3rd Abingdon Guides group.

Both groups have been running for 18 years and the Guide unit now has 24 girls regularly attending.

The 65-year-old has been awarded the British Empire Medal.

She said: “I must say I am absolutely amazed and very humbled because there are a lot of people who are equally deserving of it.

“Of all the different things I do, there are people who have done them just as long.”

She is also a member of the Long Furlong Community Association, which runs the community centre, and she helped set up the church on the estate.

Mrs Robinson, who has lived in Abingdon for 20 years with husband her Graham, added: “I must admit I could not have done all this without him.”
