THIEVES used a stolen 4x4 to ram into an Aldi supermarket in a botched bid to steal a cash machine.

At about 12.40am yesterday officers were dispatched to the scene and found a council-marked Land Rover vehicle which had been reported stolen from Witney that night.

Offenders caused damage to the store but were unsucessful in taking the ATM and nobody was injured in the incident.

Detective Constable Grahame Lea, of Force CID based at Banbury police station, said: “We are investigating the incident and working to identify and locate the offenders.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who witnessed it or has any information which could assist our enquiries to contact police.

“I would also like to speak to anyone who saw the distinctive vehicle being driven in the local area at around the time of the incident.”
