SEVERAL cars parked in a Witney street were damaged as vandals left a trail of damage in their wake.
Residents of Thorney Leys awoke on Sunday morning to find that shattered glass along their road after the windows of seven cars were smashed.
The vandalism has stunned people in the town as Thames Valley Police urges anybody with information to come forward.
Residents Louise and Neil Pudney discovered the back window of their Honda Civic had been shattered during the night.
Mrs Pudney, 49, said: “We had a knock at the door at around 7.30am. It was policewoman telling us our car window had been smashed. We were very shocked.
“A lady down the road from us saw a man at around 4.30am. He was wearing dark clothing and had a hammer in his hand.
“The police were very good but said there was no forensic evidence.”
She said insurance would be covering the damage but the couple still had to pay a £50 excess.
Mayor of Witney Chris Holliday described the damage as ‘mindless and unnecessary’, adding that the town’s low crime rate makes such acts all the more unusual. Call 101 with information.
Ours was one of 6 or 7 cars damaged, if anyone in the Witney area knows anything please contact the police on 101. https://t.co/JolpmysM97
