A FUNDRAISING trio raised more than £1,300 for a cancer charity with an event in Eynsham.

Gemma Devonport, from Eynsham, Bex Long from Kirtlington, and Dean Holliday from Banbury, held a 70s and 80s disco in Eynsham Sports and Social Club last month to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The three friends decided to raise money for the charity after Mr Holliday, 49, was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer.

Mrs Devonport, 50, said: “Dean is such a sweet bloke and we want to support him. It’s now a charity that’s very close to our heart. Dean is now just trying his best to help other people.

“There was an absolutely brilliant atmosphere on the night.”

More than 140 people showed up to enjoy the disco, paying £5 a ticket to boost funds for the cause.

As well as the disco, the three friends held a raffle and auction, in which a signed Oxford United shirt in a frame, donated by the team, was sold to the highest bidder.

The grand total raised on the evening was £1,333, which will all go to Macmillan.

The group would like to extend their thanks to John Berry, for use of his sound system, and Duncan Brown, who acted as compere and auctioneer on the night.
