THE district council in West Oxfordshire is reminding residents to ensure they are registered to vote in the upcoming Witney parliamentary by-election.

The election, which will be held on Thursday, October 20, was triggered on Monday, September 12, when sitting MP David Cameron tendered his resignation.

If you live in West Oxfordshire and voted in the EU referendum and your address and postal details have not changed you do not need to do anything and should receive a poll card by mail shortly.

Not receiving a poll card may mean you are not on the register. This could be because you have moved house since the EU referendum on June 23 or have not previously applied to register.

If you have not received a poll card by Friday, September 30, contact West Oxfordshire District Council on 01993 861410 or via email at elections@westoxon.gov.uk

Last month the council sent a household enquiry form to every home in West Oxfordshire. If you added any new people to your household in the form, they will have sent details about how to register to vote to this person.

The quickest way to register to vote is online, which can be done via www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

If you are not currently registered to vote and would like to have your say in the forthcoming by-election you must apply before Tuesday, October 4.
