MILITARY men and women spent their entire day rowing to raise money for charity Blood Bikes.

Members from the Logistics squadron charity committee at RAF Brize Norton held a row-a-thon on July 14, with 28 members each completing a 30 minute rowing session between 9am and 5pm.

The event was held at the RAF base outside the Community Support building. Passers-by and supporters were able to meet two Blood Bikers, who were in attendance, and look over one of the blood bikes.

The rowers managed to cover a total distance of 123 miles, just over five and a half times across the English Channel. They also raised £240.66 on the day.

Three supporters on the day even asked for details on how to join the Blood Bikes organisation by becoming riders.

The Blood Bikes charity is run entirely by volunteers who receive no compensation for their time or costs. Blood bikers carry urgently needed medical items such as blood, biological samples, medical notes, x-rays and scans - a service which is offered to the NHS free of charge.

The event was organised by Senior Aircraftman Rob Thomson, who said: "I am impressed with the level of support people showed us on the day and grateful to everyone who made a donation."
