ABOUT 50 junior doctors and supporters gathered in David Cameron's constituency of Witney today to campaign against the new contract imposed on them by the Government.

The group was taking part in its second day of strikes, which has caused more than 5,000 operations and procedures to be cancelled nationally.

Junior doctors, including Nadia Randazzo from Middleton Stoney, set up camp outside the Prime Minister and Witney MP David Cameron's constituency office in High Street.

The 28-year-old said: "We have had lots of positive support and we spoke to a lot of people today.

"We want the Prime Minister to step in and take responsibility for what is going on.

"It is important to raise awareness of the issue to his constituents and tell them what's going on.

"As a profession we have lost trust in [health secretary] Jeremy Hunt, he has alienated the entire health sector.

"We need to strike because at the moment he will not enter into debate with us."

Throughout the day the group collected hundreds of signatures for its petition, which asked people whether they were against the new contract.

Only emergency care was provided over the two days, with two further 48-hour strikes are planned from 8am on April 8 and April 26.
