DAVID Cameron gave his seal of approval to a special tapestry made by an embroidery group in Witney yesterday.

The Prime Minister and Witney MP spoke with members in the Corn Exchange about the work, which depicts the town’s most prominent landmarks.

It includes the Corn Exchange, Town Hall, the Buttercross, the former blanket factory and chimney and St Mary’s Church and was embroidered by 18 local stitchers.

Mr Cameron also visited a tounrist event at the newly-refurbished Eynsham Hall hotel. The Grade II-listed Georgian manor, near North Leigh, was revamped at a cost of £2.5m. He was joined there by more than 150 businesses and spoke about Experience Oxfordshire’s plans to boost the booming tourism business in the county.

Recent figures show visitors splashed out more than £660m in 2014, a four per cent increase on the previous year. The Prime Minister said: “I am passionate about the tourism sector and extremely proud to see it doing so well here in Oxfordshire.

“I was delighted to hear of Experience Oxfordshire’s plans for the future and to see true public and private sector collaboration.”

Eynsham Hall general manager Shaun Bowles said: “This was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the work recently completed, especially the new main hall bedrooms. It’s incredibly warming to receive such strong support.”
