A CARE agency in Witney has been told it needs to improve, as inspectors found the services provided to elderly people were not “safe”.

In the past week the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has published 79 reports on the quality of care provided by adult social care services across the South of England.

A total of 52 of these care homes and agencies supporting people in their own homes have been rated as good, 22 have been rated requires improvement, and five have been rated inadequate, one of which is in Witney.

Under the CQC’s programme of inspections, all of England’s adult social care services regulated by CQC are being given a rating according to whether they are safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.

It was found the Abicare, a care agency that provides care to people in their own homes in Witney, had staff that were not always deployed in a way that met people’s needs, which meant that some people did not always feel safe.

In addition, risk assessments carried out were not always found to reflect people’s changing needs and the systems used to mitigate these risks were not always effective.
