A BREWERY lorry shed its load of diesel in Witney yesterday after it reversed into a bollard.

The incident, in Corn Street at 3.50am, closed the road between Holloway Road and Langdale Gate.

It is understood the collision ruptured the Banks’s Beer vehicle’s tank spilling 200 litres of fuel onto the street.

Emergency services carried out a mopping up exercise and the road was reopened to traffic by 9am according to police. Its spokeswoman, Connie Primmer, could not say if any businesses had been effected by the fuel spill.

The road will now be shut for scheduled roadworks until Monday. Oxfordshire County Council engineers are resurfacing the road between Marlborough Lane and Butchers Court.

There will also be parking restrictions to allow traffic flow around The Crofts estate, including Saxon Way/Orchard Way and Swingburn Place.

Stagecoach said that the roadworks will affect services 11, 19, 213, 214, 215, 233, S1, S2 and X15.
