TWO men who broke a door down and entered a house in Carterton brandishing weapons were chased away by the people living there.

Thames Valley Police said the occupants of the home in Willow Drive, Shilton Park, were in their bedrooms on Monday night when they heard the door being kicked in.

They rushed downstairs and confronted two men, who said nothing and ran out of the house, escaping in a silver saloon car.

Police are treating it as a targeted incident and said one of the men was carrying a “metal crowbar-type” object, and the other what appeared to be a homemade knife that was six inches long.

Investigating officer Det Con Kevin Middlecote said: “Members of the public should also be reassured that this area is normally very safe – this is the first burglary in Shilton Park this calendar year, and only the fourth burglary in Carterton as a whole this year.

“The Neighbourhood Team has been conducting reassurance patrols in the area over the last couple of days.”

The incident took place between 11.30pm on Monday and about 1am yesterday, the force said.

One of the offenders was described by police as being of mixed race, between 5ft 10ins and 6ft 4ins, in his late teens or early 20s and with a “round face”.

The other was white, slim, in his early 20s, between 5ft 7ins and 5ft 8ins, and had a “thin face” that was cleanly shaven.
