THE head of Witney’s Woolgate shopping centre is set to retire after 13 years.

Centre manager Rodney Hartnell will be leaving at the end of the month.

Mr Hartnell, 65, has seen many changes, including the centre’s expansion, which led to Next and H&M joining Waitrose and stores such as Cargo and Currys PC World.

He has also overseen the introduction of post office services in WH Smith’s shop following the closure of the town’s main post office, as well as launching the Woolgate shopping centre’s website.

Mr Hartnell hopes to have time to watch more of his beloved football club, Arsenal, and spend more time with his wife, three children and four grandchildren.

He took up his role at the centre after being an area general manager for Moto motorway services in the UK.

His successor at the Woolgate is due to be appointed soon.
