THE A44 has seen three crashes in just 24 hours.

Three people were taken to hospital following two separate incidents yesterday.

A man and a woman had to be cut free after two cars collided between Yarnton and Begbroke shortly before midday.

It followed an earlier incident near Wootton when a pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries after an accident involving a silver Ford Mondeo at about 8am.

On Sunday a man was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries after a car he was travelling in overturned on the A44.

Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Francine Rodrigues said the two-car crash involved a Toyota and a BMW. The road was closed at noon from the Rising Sun roundabout to the Oxford Garage roundabout, but although the occupants were cut free by 1.30pm the road remained closed until about 3.40pm for accident investigation work.

The Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance attended the earlier incident involving a pedestrian. A spokeswoman for South Central Ambulance Service said: “A man in his 40s was treated for serious head and leg injuries and was taken to the John Radcliffe by land ambulance.”

Sunday’s incident involving an overturned car happened near Glympton at about noon. The road was closed for more than three hours and two people were taken to hospital, a man with serious leg injuries and another with non-life-threatening injuries.

The A34 northbound was also blocked briefly at around 8am yesterday after a collision near junction nine of the M40.

Police said nobody was hurt in the accident.
