A FLOOD alert has been issued for the River Evenlode between Moreton in Marsh to Cassington.

The Environment Agency said areas that could be affected include Kingham, Bledington, Milton under Wychwood, Shipton under Wychwood, Ascott under Wychwood, Charlbury, Fawler and Long Hanborough and also the River Glyme at Wootton and Woodstock.

A statement from the agency said: “Levels on the River Evenlode at Evenlode Bridge have been rising quickly throughout the morning in response to recent rainfall.

“They are expected to continue to rise tonight and flooding of low lying land and roads is expected this afternoon, especially in the Evenlode Bridge area.

“The weather prospects are for a dry afternoon. Some isolated showers are possible tomorrow.”

Flooding of properties was not expected, the agency added.

A flood alert has also been issued for the River Glyme at Wootton and Woodstock.
