DOUGHNUT-lovers queued from 4am to get their hands on the first batch at the new Krispy Kreme in the Westgate Centre.

A year's supply of doughnuts awaited the jammy person at the front of the queue as 65 people lined up inside the centre on Thursday.

Ranulph Quick, a 19-year-old student from Oxford who was home from University for the week won the prize after queuing overnight.

Mr Quick said: "I have been home this week as it's reading week at University, so I just thought I'd go for it.

"It was well worth getting here early and I know my friends, family and colleagues will be glad I did it too.

He added: "I'm looking forward to sharing my double dozen doughnuts with them all every month."

He also picked up a 'No.1 fan' T-shirt and second in line got a 'No.2 fan' top and so on.

The first dozen doughnut fans picked up goodie bags sprinkled with sweet delights and other prizes were handed out at random throughout the day.

It is the second Krispy Kreme in the city after it opened in the Clarendon Centre in December 2014 - although its first shop in Oxford Castle Quarter open briefly a decade ago and then closed.

Krispy Kreme operations director, Neil Williamson, said: "Oxford has been a great market for us through our Clarendon Centre store, and so we look forward to spreading the joy of Krispy Kreme even further with our newest store in Westgate Oxford.

"Thank you to everybody who came down to our jam-packed opening today, we are always delighted to meet eager fans and look forward to meeting even more in the coming weeks."

Staff also got in to the swing of things on opening morning welcoming customers with balloons, hats and of course doughnuts.

It is one of a limited number of eateries on the Westgate's upper ground floor which also includes Pret A Manger, Crepes O Mania and Boost - with most of the restaurants on the rooftop terrace.
