An elderly cyclist seriously injured in a suspected hit-and-run was still in a critical condition yesterday.

The man was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with serious head injuries after the incident at the Eynsham roundabout on Tuesday.

Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Connie Primmer said the cyclist, believed to be in his 70s, was still in a critical condition at the hospital.

She also said a man arrested in connection with the incident had been bailed until December 16.

The A40 was closed for almost three hours in both directions after the incident, which happened just before 11am at the junction with the B4449.
