Headington A suffered a setback in their bid to retain the Division 1 title in the Oxford & District League, sponsored by Yarnton Nurseries, when they were held to a 3-3 draw at Banbury Central A.
Central won on three of their rinks and appeared to be on their way to victory after Ian Whelpton’s side came from 19-5 down after 11 ends to win 23-21.
But leaders Headington were saved by Mark Charlett’s team scoring heavily in the last four ends to win 24-13.
With Oxford City & County A having a week off, Carterton moved up to second following an emphatic 6-0 home win over Witney Mills.
The hosts scored a century against their struggling opponents, with an impressive 32-12 win for David Clanfield’s rink bringing up Carterton’s ton.
Bottom club Banbury Chestnuts were effectively relegated after their 5-1 defeat at West Witney, who also chalked up a century in shots.
Kevin Alder’s four led the way with a resounding 35-8 victory.
Bicester remain top of Division 2, but made hard work of a 4-2 win at struggling Kidlington.
Kevin Taylor’s four recorded a crucial 23-14 win in the 69-65 scoreline. South Oxford A kept up the pressure on the leaders with a 4-2 home victory over third-placed Shiplake.
George Young’s side starred for South Oxford with a 29-9 success.
Bloxham won by a single shot at Oxford City & County B in Division 3 for a 5-1 success.
Tony Gardener’s four recorded a ‘hot-shot’ eight in their 21-17 win to help Bloxham secure victory.
Headington B thrashed visitors Blackbird Leys 5-1, missing a century by just one shot.
Russell Edwards’s four provided the highlight with a 34-7 victory in the 99-52 scoreline.
