Oxfordshire's Katherine Hawes is hoping to help England grab the glory in the British Isles Women’s Senior International Series in Glasgow, which gets under way on Sunday.

The Oxford City & County star clocked up her 51st cap with four appearances in the event at Bangor, Northern Ireland, last year as England finished third, with Scotland taking the honours.

Hawes, who made her international debut in 1997, will again play at No 2 in a rink skipped by Cambridgeshire’s Ellen Falkner at St Vincent’s BC .

The side won three of their four games as England recorded victories over Jersey and Wales 12 months ago, but lost to Scotland and Ireland.

And now Hawes is looking for the Red Rose nation to go two places better.

“We need to do something different – I’m not quite sure what,” she said.

“We just seem to come up a bit short each time.

“They have made changes, so we will see if this year is going to be our year or not.”

The Scots often have the backing of a partisan crowd, but Hawes – who represented England in the 1998 and 2006 Commonwealth Games – says that only serves to spur her on.

“I expect it will be very noisy,” she said. “When you go up there they can be quite like that.

“I enjoy the atmosphere. When it is like that you want to do well more than ever.”

OXFORDSHIRE Ladies drew a hard-fought Middle England League match 112-112 against Northamptonshire at Banbury Chestnuts.
