The new five-door Mini has made its debut on the Cowley plant production line.

It is the first time a five-door version of the car has been built at the plant since production under BMW started 13 years ago.

Plant managing director Frank Bachmann said: “This is an exciting day for us with the first ever five-door Mini for the plant, which opens up a whole new market segment for the brand.”

The car, which will go on sale in the autumn, will form part of the third generation of the car which was launched in Oxford last November following a £750m investment in production facilities.
